Join the Chamber? Who – Me?(Your guide for answering objection/questions) There are no good reasons for not joining the Chamber, however, be prepared for some objections. Actually, these objections are requests for information.  The following answers are for use by patient volunteers in addressing “original” objections and questions while soliciting membership to our Chamber. 

I am not interested in the Chamber of Commerce.If you are doing business in the Perham area, you are interested in the Chamber of Commerce.  You are dependent upon a vital and healthy business community so, in turn, your business can prosper and grow here.  The Chamber functions to improve the economic life and well being in a community.

 I can’t afford it.Being invited to become a member of the largest, most active service organizations is not being asked to give away money.  You are making an investment on which you get assured returns. 

I don’t have time.All the more reason to make a financial investment.  The Chamber is dependent on both financial and volunteer support.  If you are unable to participate on Chamber committees, your financial support will allow for continued operations of projects manned by people who do have time to work for the good of the total community.

 I don’t agree with a lot of the things the Chamber does.Of course not.  The only way that the Chamber of Commerce could avoid disagreement would be to adopt a “do nothing” policy.  One of the beauties of an organization like the Chamber is to welcome the diverse opinions of all residents.  Decisions are based on I put from members and general benefit to the community.  By being a Chamber member you can better understand the actions of the organization, change comes from  within. 

My business is too small.Want to grow?  Chamber programs reflect the importance small business plays in the community with other businesses.  Business After Hours helps small business owners meet other business leaders.  The smaller the business, the greater the need for Chamber membership. 

 We’re just a branch office.Having opened a branch office here is proof that your company considers this area a good place to do business.  This is your home and you , as a branch manager, benefit from the Chamber of Commerce.  You use many Perham area facilities that are supported by the taxes that result from a favorable business climate. 

I can’t join now.  Maybe later.

That may be too late.  There is intense competition for consumer dollars from other trade areas.  The Perham area Chamber of Commerce needs to be active now.  Heads of large national corporations are constantly making decisions about where to locate new businesses.  We must remain a community committed to growth and prosperity.  That takes new dollars and support every day.  We need you now!
